Monitor

Monitor

Overview

There are multiple ways to monitor your running tests' progress. Which monitoring option you will use will largely depend on your test setup and your booth setup.

The Monitor feature in Compusense is beneficial for:
  1. Monitoring your tests' progress.
At any time, with confidence, you can see each panelist's progress in their evaluation in the booth environment. You can monitor tests with registered panelists and tests with anonymous panelists.

  2. Streamlining the sample serving process.
Use the Monitor in combination with the Serve report to streamline your sample serving process.

  3. Monitoring multiple tests in multiple browser windows, on multiple computers/devices.
If you have more than one test to monitor at the same time, use the Monitor to open each test in its own browser on one computer, or on different computers altogether.

  4. Sharing the serving responsibilities for a single test between two or more servers/technicians.
Combine the Monitor and Serve Assist features to delegate serving responsibilities. For more information about the Serve Assist feature, please contact our Support Team.

Access The Test Monitor

  1. Open the test that you wish to monitor.

  2. In the top right-hand corner of the test, click on the Monitor button. The Monitor will open in a new browser tab to allow you to simultaneously monitor the test and work on other tests if necessary in the original tab.

Test Monitor Features

The image below shows various features and settings available in the Monitor screen for different tabs. The booth rows in the screenshot are found in the Monitor tab. Further down on this page you will find example screenshots for the Progress and for the Serve Assist tabs.

#
Feature
Description
1
Test Details
Test ID, Test name and Test display name are available for your convenience.
2
Booths
Available in the Monitor tab and Serve Assist tab.

If you prefer, you can set a specific number of booths to always display in your Monitor tab, or your Serve Assist tab. This is useful if you are sharing the sample serving responsibility with another colleague.

For example, you can claim booths 1 through 10 while your colleague can claim booths 11 through 20 to monitor.

In the example screenshot above we see that 10 booths are displayed in the Monitor tab regardless of whether there are panelists in all of them actively participating in the test or not.

If you prefer not to use this feature, the monitoring table will display only the booths that have panelists in them that are actively participating in the test. Booths without a panelist actively participating in the test will not be listed.

3
Sample Set Status Count
View the count of sample sets for those that are Complete, In Progress or Not Started.

Selection you make will not affect the table. It will only show the count for the sample set status you selected to monitor. The default is Complete.

4
Monitor
This tab is available only when booths are set up for monitoring purposes.

Click the Monitor tab to monitor the sample set status. This feature is great for identifying where each panelist is in the questionnaire.

This page refreshes automatically to provide real-time status of your booths and panelists.

5
Refresh
This button is available only when the Progress tab is clicked. Click the refresh button to reload the Progress page.

6
Progress
Click Progress for a clear overview of panelist progress. This feature is ideal when you need to know which sample panelists are on, such as in Home Use Tests. In this scenario you would not be concerned about serving samples, but rather to see whether the panelists are progressing as expected. Booth information is not available on this page.

See below for an example image.

This page does not refresh automatically, so use the refresh button for latest updates on the panelists' progress.

7
Results
Click Results to display graphs or data (means and panelist comments). Default graph options can be set in the Results area of the test.

If you wish to hide the Results button for some or all analysts, please contact our Support Team.

8
Serve Assist
This button is available only when the Serve Assist feature is enabled in the Logistics > General test options tab in compatible tests. Contact our Support Team for more information about the Serve Assist feature.

Click Serve Assist in the Monitor screen to serve the longest waiting panelist first.

See below for an example image.

9
Settings
Click Settings to customize the view for Monitor, Progress and Serve Assist tabs displays. You are able to control the following:
  1. Font size on all monitoring tabs (Monitor, Progress, and Serve Assist).

  2. Columns visible in the Monitor tab.

  3. The maximum number of sample position columns. If the test has more than the set number of position columns, the Progress page will hide all the sample position columns.

  4. Sound notifications in the Serve Assist page.

10
Share
Click Share to generate and share the following links with people who do not have access to your Compusense subscription. Example: a CLT (Central Location Testing) provider.
  1. Progress and Monitor - A test monitor link that allows anonymous progress monitoring without the access to any of the sensitive information in the test. Click Generate shareable link > Copy to clipboard, and send the link via email.

  2. Results - A link that allows anonymous graphing capabilities without the access to any of the sensitive information in the test. Click Generate shareable link > Copy to clipboard, and send the link via email.

If ever necessary, click Revoke access to this link > Revoke to disable access to the above features. Every time a link is generated after that, it will be different than the revoked link.

11
Legends
Click the question mark icon  to display a Monitor Colour Legend and Progress Icon Legend. The legend will display explanations for each colour and icon meaning.

12
Monitor and Progress Tables, and Serve Assist Tiles
The table view is different for the Monitor tab from the Progress tab. The Serve Assist tab displays tiles instead of a table view. Please see corresponding example images below.

Monitor Tests In A Lab Setting

The Monitor tab is ideal for monitoring tests in a lab setting. Be sure that your booths are set up properly to be compatible with the Monitor tab.

The Monitor tab offers the columns outlined below. Click on a column to sort by it in the ascending order. Click on the same column again to sort by it in the descending order.

Use the Settings tab to customize the column view.

  1. The "clear booth" button. Click the button next to a booth to remove the booth from your Monitor tab. Click the button found in the header row (the very first button before the Booth column heading) to remove all booths from the Monitor tab.

  2. Booth. Booth numbers are listed in this column in the ascending order. Only booths that are properly set up for monitoring purposes will display in the Monitor tab.

  3. SS#. This column displays the Sample Set numbers.

  4. Username. Panelist Usernames are displayed in this column.

  5. First Name. Panelist first names as recorded in the Panelists library display in this column.

  6. Section Name. If your test has multiple sections, it will be beneficial to display section names in the Monitor tab.

  7. Current Question. Displays the question number and name of the question a panelist is currently working on. If a panelist is on a time delay screen, the name given to the time delay screen during the test setup will be displayed. See the image further down for the Time Delay column.

  8. Current Sample. Displays the sample number and blinding code of the sample a panelist is currently working on. In tests where multiple samples are presented at one time, all samples will be displayed in this column.

  9. Remaining Samples. Displays the sample number and blinding code of the samples that the panelist has yet to receive for the sitting. The samples are listed according to the order assigned for the sample set in the experimental design selected in the test.

If the test uses Partial Present, then this column displays the remaining samples for the current partial present block. Other partial present blocks are not considered.

  10. Time Delay. When a test is set up with a time delay (e.g. a screen between samples allowing panelists to cleanse their palate), your Monitor tab will display a red row for the panelist who is currently on the time delay screen, and will also display how much time they have left before they can advance to the next screen (or sample).

A row will turn red only if the Time delay is the last item before the Thank you screen in the Build tab. If you added any additional questions or screens after the Time delay, the row for the panelist who reached the Time delay screen will not turn red.

  11. Last Activity. Displays the number of seconds, minutes, and even hours, the panelist was last active in the test. This counter resets every time a panelist interacts with the test.

Monitor Tests In A Non-Lab Setting

The Progress tab is ideal for monitoring tests that are taking place outside of your lab. E.g. HUT (Home Use Tests).

Booth setup is not recommended in scenarios where panelist personal devices are used for testing.

The Progress tab offers the columns outlined below. Click on a column to sort by it in the ascending order. Click on the same column again to sort by it in the descending order.

Use the Settings tab to customize the column view.

  1. SS#. This column displays the Sample Set numbers.

  2. Sample Set Status. Displays the stage panelists are at in completing their sample sets. Hover over the status icons to reveal their meaning:
    1. - Not started.

    2.   - In progress.

    3. Complete.

    4. - Paused. Home Use Testing, or other testing outside of the lab often can utilize pauses to enable panelists to take extended break between samples and continue after the set number of minutes, hours, or days that you specified. The Progress tab allows you to easily see and clear pauses to enable panelists to resume testing before their pause time lapses, if needed.

  3. Username. Panelist Usernames are displayed in this column.

  4. Pos: #. The column names for sample position display the word "Pos" (stands for position) and sample position numbers from 1 to the maximum number of positions in sample sets.

The "Pos: #" column displays the sample number and blinding code for each sample position according to the sample order for each panelist's sample set.

Serve Samples To The Longest Waiting Panelists First

If you want to have full control over serving samples in a timely fashion, the Serve Assist feature is ideal for that. With this feature, you will serve the samples to panelists on the first-come-first-serve basis.

You will first need to enable the feature in the Logistics > General test options tab in compatible tests.

In the image above we can see two panelists waiting for their next sample to be served. The "Booth 8" tile is enabled and the sample indicated in the tile can be served because this panelist has been waiting for their sample the longest. When their sample is served to them, their tile will disappear from the Serve Assist page until they require next sample to be served to them.

The "Booth 3" tile is visible but disabled indicating that the panelist at that booth is ready for their next sample, but they had not waited as long as the panelist ahead of them (the one in the booth 8).

In tests where multiple samples are presented at a time (e.g. discrimination tests), all samples that the panelist is supposed to receive will be listed in the tile.
