Overview: Sections

Overview

By adding sections to a test, you can subdivide the test into logical groupings of questions. It's like presenting several different tests to the same panelists within the one test presentation. Each section can have its own set of questions, samples, and design.

In fact, you will have to add sections if you want to include a triangle or paired preference question in combination with quantitative descriptive questions such as category or ranking questions.

If a test or test section contains only non sample-related questions, for example demographic questions about gender and age, you don't need to add samples or a design to the section. You can add a Survey section test type.

A test with multiple sections contains one panelist list, one sample binding option, one panelist language, and one required number of sample sets.

In Standard tests, and Survey tests with no connections added, you can select a section option that allows panelists to move backward and forward through the questions within the section from Logistics > General test options tab.

Use Sections to:
  • Allow the same panelists to test different products during the one presentation.

  • Separate demographic questions from discrimination questions (they are not compatible in a single section).

For analysis purposes, we recommend using a single section whenever possible. If necessary, use multi-section feature and be prepared to run analysis within individual sections for discrimination test data, or use the "Advanced search & analysis across tests" feature to analyze standard test data with 1-way ANOVA.
