Booth Setup For Anonymous Testing
Overview
Anonymous tests allow you to perform data collection without linking panelists to their responses. We strongly recommend to use
registered panelists or
guest panelists in your tests whenever possible instead of anonymous panelists. The reasons for this recommendation are as follows:
- It
is not possible to link data back to panelists in anonymous tests,
while data is directly linked to registered and guest panelists.
- Every
anonymous test has a unique URL. In other words, every time you run a
new anonymous test, you have to distribute a new URL to the panelists.
This does not make it convenient to create bookmarks for such tests.
Login URL for registered and guest panelists is always the same for the
website you are presenting the test to, regardless of which test it is, which makes it ideal for bookmarking.
- For
security reasons, the anonymous test URL is very long. This can make it
slightly difficult to manage the URL distribution in the lab settings,
unless you are using a QR code or a short URL.
Login URL for
registered and guest panelists is not as long, and it too can be
converted into a short URL or QR code if necessary.
- Anonymous URLs can be accessed by same persons multiple times.
Tests
with registered panelists by default do not allow this, although there
is a feature that can be enabled in scenarios where you with to allow
multiple sample set evaluation by registered panelists.
With all that said, we recognize that sometimes anonymous testing is needed so we provide the anonymous panelist option as well.
Before
you resort to using the anonymous panelist feature, ask yourself, why
you want to use anonymous panel. Is it because you want to eliminate the
login step in the panelists' busy day? If this is the only reason, we
have a feature that allows you to use registered panelists in compatible
tests, and they don't have to log in! This way their data is linked to
them, but they can simply click the link and go right into the test
without logging in. Contact
Support Team for details about
Sample Set Links.
If unsure whether anonymous option is the right option for your test, please
contact Compusense Support Team with your testing needs and they will be happy to give you a recommendation.
For all the tests where you wish to link the data to the panelists, the panelists need to be imported into the
Panelists library in order to use them in your tests.
Set An Anonymous Test Up
- In your test, click Panelists.
- Ensure that there are no panelists added already. If there are, remove them.
- Place a checkmark in the Anonymous checkbox.
- Complete all the other aspects of your test setup: Overview, Samples & design, Build, Logistics, Review, and Run test.
Even if you did not remove registered panelists from your test before clicking Anonymous, the software will prompt you with an option to remove them. Please read all the prompts carefully and make the necessary selections.
Access The Booth Configuration Link For Anonymous Testing
- In a test with anonymous panelists, ensure that the test is running to avoid seeing errors due to the anonymous test not being available when you test the URL.
- Go to the Overview tab and click the Booth setup instructions button. You will be presented with instructions on how to set the
booths up, with the URL and QR code for the setup. Feel free to follow the
instructions found there, or continue here on this page.
- Let's review the different options found on this screen:

2
| Booth setup URL
| Click Copy to clipboard to copy the Booth setup URL. Paste or type it in a browser on panelist devices to bring up the Booth Configuration screen.
This URL is identical for tests with registered panelists and anonymous testing. The difference comes with the Anonymous test code, as described further down in this table.
|
3
| Booth setup QR code
| Use mobile booth devices to scan the QR code by pointing camera on those devices directly to this screen to bring up the Booth Configuration screen on panelist devices.
This QR code is identical for tests with registered panelists and anonymous testing. The difference comes with the Anonymous test code, as described in this table below.
|
4
| Anonymous test code: (Use with booth setup URL)
| The booth configuration for anonymous testing will be possible to properly complete only with the Anonymous test code. Without using this code, the booth setup will be compatible with registered panelists only.
|
5
| Anonymous test URL QR code: (Use on its own)
| This QR code is not intended
for booth setup. It is available to enable panelists to more
efficiently access the test by scanning the code with their devices.
|
6
| Print these instructions
| Click Print these instructions button so you can take a paper copy of the URLs and the QR codes with you
to each device and use either option that is compatible with the
device.
If QR code scanning is not an option on a device, you will have
to type in the browser address bar one of the URLs mentioned above that meets your testing needs.

This was just to get you familiar with the screen. Follow the steps below to set the booths up properly.
The focus of this workflow is to configure booths in a lab environment for test monitoring with anonymous panelists.
- Be sure that the test is running to avoid seeing errors due to the anonymous test not being available when you try to monitor it.
- Distribute to your data collection devices in the lab the Booth setup URL or Booth setup QR code, AND the Anonymous test code. You will need the way to bring up the Booth Configuration page (which the URL and QR code can equally do) and you will need the unique test code to access the anonymous test that you are hoping to monitor. These items are described in the above table.
Do not use the second QR code on that screen because it will not help you set the booths up for monitoring the test.
- Launch the Booth Configuration page.
- Enter a unique booth number for monitoring purposes. Keep track of the numbers to avoid duplicates. There is no limit in the numbers you can assign.
For example, it does not have to be 1 through 10; you can assign numbers in hundreds if desired. This can be helpful if using multiple labs/rooms to avoid numbering confusion.
- Optional: By default, anonymous tests will automatically loop to the Welcome screen 25 seconds after each panelist is done with their evaluation. If you would like to change the default loop time, go to Advanced Options > Enable Redirect Loop > Enable Autoforward > enter desired time > OK.
- For a quick and efficient access to an anonymous test, enter the Anonymous test code you prepared in the step 2.
- Optional: If you would like to maintain the same booth configuration for all of your anonymous tests on your booth computer or device, you can create a bookmark for your booth configuration screen (not for a specific anonymous test) after you have configured accordingly. This way, when you enter the anonymous test code for a test, the booth number and autoforward time will be held; you will not have to set those components up every time.
- When happy with the setup, click Go to test to access the anonymous test and monitor it on your test monitor screen.
