2-out-of-5 Test

2-out-of-5 Test

Overview

The pre-set 2-out-of-5 test type template comes distributed with the software for you to use in a click of a button! The 2-out-of-5 testing is a discrimination testing method. Panelists are presented with a total of five samples. Two belong to one type and three belong to another. The panelists are asked to group the samples into two groups based on similarity.

An advantage of the 2-out-of-5 test is that getting the correct answer by chance is only 1/10. A potential disadvantage is increased sensory variance due to sensory fatigue caused by the larger number of samples. However, it can be a powerful method for visual or tactile discrimination (e.g. non-food products).

Data from this test can be analyzed using binomial statistics. The software also provides d’ and similarity analysis.
