Analysis Across Tests: Graphing

Overview

The Graphing tool can provide you with visual representation of your data across multiple sections within a single test or across multiple tests with or without multiple sections in them. Nothing prevents you from generating graphs within a single test if you like.

Graphing is also available within single tests in the Results area.


Question Compatibility

The Graphing feature is compatible with Standard tests that include at least one question type from the list outlined below. If your test has a question type that is not listed below, a graph will not be generated on that specific question type.

Generate Graphs Across Tests


Idea
Example use case #1: I would like to track the performance of my panelists over time.

Idea
Example use case #2: I would like to track the performance of my shelf-life data over time.


  1. From the Compusense Dashboard, in the top right-hand corner, click Advanced search & analysis across tests.


  2. Specify the test search criteria and select the tests you wish to include in your graphs.


    Idea
    The order of tests in the search results will have an impact on the order some information on the graph is presented. By default, the list is sorted by the Last modified date in the descending order. Sort the tests by a column of your choice (such as Test ID) and generate a graph to find the order that suits your graphing needs.
    For example, graph generated on the tests below might have the items in the legend out of the expected order. In our example, the samples are named after the weeks they were tested in.
        
    Same tests sorted by the Test ID column in the ascending order will create a legend that is more as expected.
        


  3. Click Graphing.
    By default, the first compatible attribute or question will be included in the graph, the Y-Axis will represent the means, the X-Axis will represent the attribute/question, the legend will show samples grouped by sample names, and the graph is in the bar graph format. You can change all these by following the remaining steps in this workflow.

    All changes are dynamic and will immediately be applied to the graph.

  4. Use Filters to refine the data going into your graph.

    1. Select whether you wish to filter specific sample sets out, or samples, or reps (where applicable).

    2. If filtering sample sets, select the test you wish to filter on. You can also decide whether you wish to exclude the 'In progress' sample sets from the graph. By default all sample sets are included.

      If filtering samples and/or reps, they can also be filtered per test. The test information is found in the Test name column.


    3. With all filter types:
      1. Use the Column picker to assist you with identifying the sample sets, samples or reps that you wish to filter out.

      2. Use the checkbox in the header row to select or deselect all rows.

      3. Use a single row click to select or deselect individual rows.

      4. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and use the mouse click to select multiple rows at a time.

    4. Click Clear all filters if you wish to start over with your filtering.

    5. Cancel out of filtering if you don't want to apply any filters, or click Apply filters to save your changes. The graphing area will be updated with Filters applied message if you applied filters.


  5. Update the graphing criteria as necessary. Carefully review all the options to find what works best for your graphing needs.
    1. From the Questions, select the questions/attributes you wish to display on the graph.


    2. From the Y-Axis, select Means, or Counts, or Percentages. The options availability in this list depends on the questions/attribute selected in the Questions list.


    3. The options availability in the X-Axis list are directly related to the option selected in the Y-Axis list.
      1. For Means you can select either Questions/Attributes, or Samples, or Panelists, or Sample set completion date.


      2. For Counts and Percentages you can select only Scale.
           



    4. Click the blue button with arrows pointing left and right to swap the Legend and the X-Axis.

      This is an example graph from the same data used in the above example, but with samples on the X-Axis this time:


    5. From the Legend select from the available options.

      1. When Samples are selected, you can decide whether you wish to group the data with the same sample name, or group by product, or group by sample type, or treat each sample as unique, or group data by a custom sample filed. In our example screenshot we have custom sample fields Batch number and Date of Production that were used in at least one of the selected tests. If you would like to add custom sample fields into your tests, please contact our Support Team for assistance.


      2. When Panelists are selected, you can specify which panelist field you wish to display your data on.


      3. When Sample set completion date is selected, you can decide whether you wish to graph the data based on day, week, month, quarter, or year.


    6. If you have set Attribute limits and you used attributes with the same name in your tests, and you selected Counts for the Y-Axis, and Scale for the X-Axis, and you selected Samples in the Legend, then you will have the option to show limits on the graph.

      Toggle the option to Yes to see the upper and lover limits, as well as the target line.


    7. Use the toolkit in the top right-hand corner of the graph to customize the appearance of the graph:

      1. Click the perpendicular arrows to swap the legend. This performs the same action as the blue button described earlier.

      2. Zoom in a segment of the graph for a closer look. Click on the icon (the cursor will become a cross) and then click and drag the pointer around the segment on the graph that you wish to zoom in on. You can save the zoomed in segment if you wish by clicking the download icon.


        Reset the zoom to the full graph view when done.

      3. View the data table by clicking the paper icon , which you can copy to clipboard and paste in another application, such as Excel. Click Close to return to your graph.

      4. Select a different graph format (line graph , bar graph , stacked , or tiled ). Restore the graph to the original format if desired.

      5. Save the graph as an .svg image file. If you zoomed a segment of the graph in, you can download that segment. The file will be saved to a location set in your browser's download settings.

  6. To return to the list of tests, in the top left-hand corner, click the Advanced test search link.

     


Parameters For Graphing Shelf-life Data

Monitor your samples over time by selecting the following parameters:
  1. The Attribute of interest.
  2. The x-axis should be Sample Set Completion time.
  3. Legend should be the samples.

Notes
You will only be able to view one attribute at a time. If there is only one sample you can set the legend to question/attributes.
