Build: FCM For Line Scale Attributes

Overview

On your journey through the Compusense® FCM® (Feedback Calibration Method) you have arrived to the point where you want to use Line scale to train your panelists. If you have not done it already, please go through the steps leading up to this point (prepare the target and range values) to make sure that nothing is missed in the process.

Enable FCM

To show the immediate feedback to panelists, you need to first enable that functionality. If you are not intending to show immediate feedback to panelists, do not enable this feature (you can still use the Targets and ranges for your reports). If you enable the feature but don't set the targets and ranges up, the feature will automatically turn off when you navigate away from the Training & feedback page.
  1. Go to the Build tab of your test and click Training & feedback.


  2. By default, you will already be on the Immediate feedback tab (see the right side of the screen). Toggle the Show feedback to panelists option to Show.

Sample number and name
The sample number in the order the samples were added in the Samples & design tab along with the name specified there for the sample will be displayed.

In the sample table the scale questions and attributes for each sample will be listed.

Use the arrow in the top right corner of the sample table to collapse or expand the table for faster access to the sample you are interested in.

Question number and name
Question number in the order it was placed in the Build tab along with the name specified there for the question will be displayed.

Our example image shows one question per sample, but this table will list all the scale questions that exist in your test that are compatible with the Targets and ranges feature.

Attribute
This column lists all Line scale attribute numbers and names as they were added to the question in the Build tab.

Min, Max
This column displays the minimum and the maximum values for the scale. In other words, the lowest and the highest points on the scale for each attribute.

Attributes can have different end points even when they are a part of the same question, although this is not a common practice.

Low, Target, High
These columns are the only editable columns in this screen. This is where you get to enter or import the targets and ranges for your samples and attributes.




Manually Enter The Targets And Ranges

In order to prepare the feedback for panelists, you need to set the targets and ranges for samples and attributes that you wish to provide feedback on. If this is your very first training session with immediate feedback on specific samples and attributes, you might want to set the targets and ranges on most if not all of them. As the training progresses and you refine the feedback, the number of samples and attributes that will require feedback will decrease.

Manual entry can be useful when there are only a few attributes and a sample or two that require feedback. For larger number of attributes and samples we recommend using the import method instead. See below for steps.

You can use Targets and Ranges to monitor your newly trained panelists' progress in your reports over time without showing them the feedback during the evaluation. It is OK, you are not being sneaky :)

  1. Go to the sample and the attribute you wish to enter the targets and ranges for.

  2. Click in the Low cell for the attribute and enter the value you wish the range to start with.
    1. The value cannot be below the Min value nor can it be above the High value for the attribute.
    2. The value can be equal to the Target value if necessary.
    3. If you choose to use Targets and ranges for an attribute, the Low value is mandatory.

  3. Click in the Target cell for the attribute and enter the target value.
    1. The target value is optional.
    2. The value must be within the Min and Max values.
    3. The value cannot be below the Low value.
    4. The value cannot be above the High value.

  4. Click in the High cell for the attribute and enter the value you wish the range to end with.
    1. The value cannot be below the Min value nor can it be above the High value for the attribute.
    2. The value can be equal to the Target value if necessary.
    3. If you choose to use Targets and ranges for an attribute, the High value is mandatory.

The steps outlined above can be followed when entering new values or making updates to existing.


Export Targets And Ranges

It will be essential to have the targets and ranges in a proper format before being able to import them into Compusense. The best way to obtain the right format is by exporting the attributes and samples out of Compusense and updating the file with your targets and ranges. The file will then be ready for import.

If you have not done that already, export the attributes and samples tables:
  1. Go to the Build tab and click the Training & feedback button.

  2. Click Export, save the file, open it and populate with the target and range values you compiled.


    Please be mindful of the headings to make sure that you are entering the right value under the right heading/column. Feel free to move the Target column between the Low and High columns if necessary; it will not have a negative impact on the import.

  3. When done, save the file by keeping the .csv file format. Follow the steps below for importing the target and ranges values into Compusense.

Import Targets And Ranges

  1. Go to the Build tab and click the Training & feedback button.

  2. Click Import, browse to the file, double-click it to import. At the bottom of your screen you should see a confirmation message that the import was successful.


  3. Review the targets and ranges and click Save to save the changes.

The steps outlined above can be followed when importing new values or making updates to existing.


You may preview your test and run your training when ready for that.
