Overview

In the computer world there are so called 'phishing' and 'spam' campaigns that use 'email spoofing' method in the attempts to gain access to the target recipients. 

We want to assist you as a Compusense user in the fight against such security threats.

When emailing panelists from Compusense, it is important to follow the emailing best practices to avoid being classified as an email spoofer. If classified as such, this can result in interruption in email delivery, which in return translates in testing delays and associated costs.

The good news is, this can be avoided.

What is Email Spoofing?

Email spoofing is sending an email that has a ‘reply to’ email address that does not originate from a mail server that is trusted to send email for the ‘reply to’ email's domain. 

What Is a Domain? 

In simple terms, the domain is the text found after the @ symbol in an email address.  



When Are Emails from Compusense Considered Spoofs?

If you try to email panelists from Compusense using your company email address in the Reply Email field, some recipient email servers' security features will classify you as a spoofer. 

Why Is My Company Email Address Considered a Spoof? 

Compusense has two email domains that are recognized on the Internet as 'allowed' domains:

  • compusensecloud.com 

    --and

  • at-hand.net

When emailing from Compusense with a  Reply to address that does not have one of these domains, your emails will be considered spoofs. This unfortunately means that even though you use your perfectly valid company email address in Compusense, it will be classified as a spoof because your email will falsely indicate that it is coming from your company servers while in actuality it is coming from Compusense servers. The recipient email security will classify this mismatch as a spoofing attempt and can block all your future emails to the recipient. 

For example,  john.dear@yourcompany.com  may be a valid email address, but when placed in the  Reply to box while emailing panelists from Compusense, it qualifies to be classified as a spoofing attempt because @yourcompany.com is not one of the two Compusense allowed domains mentioned above.


What are Best Email Practices to Avoid Spoofing?

Compusense Support sets all new users up with email redirects that will eliminate spoofing issues. This means that we would provide you with an email address that has one of the two allowed domains for all of your email communications from Compusense.  
  
  
The text before the @ symbol is something you would provide to us prior to redirect email setup. The example above is only for demonstration purposes. Typically the rules for email redirects are discussed during the roll-out call.
  
We would then set the redirect email address up in such a way that it redirects all the panelist replies to a different email address. That 'different' email address would be an actual email address at your company that you provide to us. It can be a specific person that you wish to redirect all these emails to, or it can be a group email. 

For example, sensorylab@compusensecloud.com could be redirecting all the panelist replies to john.dear@yourcompany.com or tosensorylab@yourcompany.com 
With this setup, all the emails that you send from Compusense to your panelists will have the domain that matches our allowed domains and therefore will not be suspicious to recipients' email servers security.  

All the emails that panelists send to the redirect email address will be redirected to the email address at your company as you provided to us. 

If your would prefer that all email communication coming from Compusense to your panelists has your domain in them rather than compusensecloud.com, it is possible to set that up, but please note that there is cost associated with this. Reach out to our Support Team for details.
