Overview
If you cloned a test, very likely you do not want to reuse the same blinding codes that were used in the original test. Even if you did not clone a test, you created a brand new one from a template, maybe you don't like the blinding codes that the software assigned by default, or maybe you have specific blinding codes that you want to use. In any case, you have the power to update the blinding codes to be what you want them to be.
- Two-digit codes. E.g. 92
- Three-digit codes. E.g. 928
- Four-digit codes. E.g. 9281
- Five-digit codes. E.g. 92814
- A0A to Z9Z codes. E.g. N2A
If there are only a few samples and you wish to update the
constant blinding codes along with other sample information directly on the screen, you can do that by following these steps:
- In the Samples & design tab of your test, click Edit samples.
- Type the information you wish to update, including the blinding codes.
- Click Save.
If you are using file import to update sample information regardless whether you have a few samples or many of them, you can update the
constant blinding codes in the same import.
It is important that the importing file is formatted properly. The
easiest way to obtain the right file format is by exporting the existing
list of samples first. If you have not done that already, follow these
steps:
- In the Samples & design tab, select Options > Export (.csv) . Useful when sample information does not contain 'special' characters.

Select Options > Export (.dat) . Useful when sample information contains 'special' characters.
- To open the exported file:
- .csv file:
double-click to open the file. Update it as necessary, maintaining the
original number of columns and their headings, and save the changes.
- .dat file: right-click on the file and open with Excel or another spreadsheet program.
If Excel or another spreadsheet program are not available in the Open file menu:
- Click Choose another app.
- Uncheck Always use this app to open x files, so that you don't associate the spreadsheet software with this file type.
- If in the list of applications does not show Excel or any other spreadsheet program, click More apps.
- If
the list still does not show what you need, click Look for another app
on this PC. Search for "excel.exe" on your computer, or search for
another spreadsheet program on your computer to add it to the list. You
might need to involve your IT in this process.
Once the right app is successfully selected, you will be able to
right-click on the file and open it in Excel or another spreadsheet
program.
Update the file as necessary, maintaining the original number of columns and their headings, and save the changes.
- Go back to Compusense and in the Samples & design tab, click Edit samples.
- In the Edit samples screen, select From file > Update.
- Browse to the file that you wish to import and click Submit . The samples will be updated with the new information you imported, including the blinding codes.
Edit Constant Blinding Codes - Keeping The Digit Style
If your other sample information is already up to date and you just wish to update the blinding codes, you can still do that for
constant blinding codes as described in the previous two sections, but you can also follow the steps below instead.
- In the Samples & design tab of your test, select Blinding codes > Edit.
- In the Modify blinding codes screen, either type in the new blinding codes in the BC# column, or click Assign new codes to allow software to assign a new set of blinding codes to your samples, or do both. You can click the Assign new codes option as many times as necessary to generate the blinding codes you want.
- In this scenario the objective is to keep the same digit style that the test originally had, so we will not change it at this time. If you also wish to change the digit style, follow the next workflow. Click Save blinding codes to save the changes.
Edit Constant Blinding Codes
- In the Samples & design tab of your test, select Blinding codes > Edit.
- In the Modify blinding codes screen, do the following:
- From the Blinding code digit style list select the style that meets your testing needs.
- Either type in the new blinding codes in the BC# column, or click Assign new codes to allow software to assign a new set of blinding codes to your samples, or do both. You can click the Assign new codes option as many times as necessary to generate the blinding codes you want.
- Click Save blinding codes to save the changes.
Edit Manual Blinding Codes Manually
- In the Samples & design tab of your test, select Blinding codes > Edit.
- In the Modify blinding codes screen, do the following:
- From the Blinding code digit style list select the style that meets your testing needs.
- Either type in the new blinding codes in the Position # columns, or click Assign new codes to allow software to assign a new set of blinding codes to your samples, or do both. You can click the Assign new codes option as many times as necessary to generate the blinding codes you want.
- Click Save blinding codes to save the changes.
Update The Manual Blinding Codes From a File
- In the Samples & design tab of your test, select Blinding codes > Edit.
- In the Modify blinding codes screen, do the following:
- From the Blinding code digit style list select the style that meets your testing needs.
- It will be useful to know what file format you need, which you can easily obtain by exporting the existing blinding codes. Click Export. Keep the Compusense screen open.
- Open the file you just exported and update the blinding codes as necessary.
Please do not change the information in the first row and the first column.
Save and close the file making sure that you maintain its .csv format.
- Back in Compusense, click Import.
- Browse to the file you updated earlier and double-click it to import it.
- Click Save blinding codes to save the changes.
