To import product information with special characters, i.e. characters not found in the Latin alphabet (for example, Cyrillic languages, Asian languages, languages written from right to left, etc.), you will need to save your product information excel file as Unicode text. Once your file is saved as Unicode text you can change the file type to .dat. This .dat file can then be imported into the
Products Library.
If the file is saved as .csv first, it will change your characters in the file into different characters for example, so the file must first be saved as Unicode text (.txt).
Prepare File with Special Characters
Prepare your product data in the file format compatible with our software. Use the example product import file found in the
Products
Library by selecting a product group and clicking
Import/export > Download example product import file
.
Your example import file might only have two columns,
Code
and
Product name
.
Do not change the spelling of the column headers.
Save your file as Unicode text.
You MUST save your file as Unicode text before continuing. If the file is saved as .csv first, it will change your special characters in the file into different characters, so the file must first be saved as Unicode text (.txt).
After preparing your Excel file, open your File Explorer and go to the location that the Unicode file is saved in. Ensure that you can see the File name extensions in your file explorer.
Right-click on the Unicode file, and click
Rename
. Update the File name extension from .txt to .dat.

in the pop up that appears.
Import Products
In the
Products
library, select a product group in which you wish to import the products. If the desired product groups does not exist, add a new product group first.
On the right, select
Import/export > Import products
.
In the
Import products
screen, click
Browse
and locate your products import file that you prepared in the first step. Click
Open
.
Click
Submit
.
You will be provided with a message indicating whether your import was successful or not.
Once the import is complete, the samples of your products are ready to be added to tests.
To review the import and export history for a product group at any time, in the
Products
library, select the product group you are interested in, and on the right, select
Import/export > Import/export history
.
