Descriptive Analysis Workbook Product Summary

What is it?

Product Summary sheet is one of the sheets in the Descriptive Analysis Workbook . Product Summary provides the post hoc results by attribute.

Why would I use it?

To identify attributes that panelists used to differentiate between the products.

Setup options



To generate the Product Summary sheet, under 2. Select Options , select Product summary .

The Analysis Options from Defaults area indicates what your default selections for ANOVA model and post hoc test are. If a change is necessary, click Change Advanced Analysis Options .




Analysis Overview

If the Product Summary is the first sheet in your Descriptive Analysis Workbook, then you will see a statement similar to the following:
" Analysis performed using analysis of variance (2-way) with samples X panelists interaction and Tukey's HSD at alpha=0.05 ".
Often Product Means Radar Graphs  is the first sheet. We provided more details about the above statement in the workflow for the Product Means Radar Graphs sheet.



  1. Post hoc and significance levels . The post hoc here reflects the analysis that is selected in the Defaults . Significance levels are always indicated as being at alpha level 0.1, 0.05 or 0.01, regardless of selection made in the Defaults .
  2. Attributes . A list of attributes included in the analysis, one attribute per row.
  3. Significance . Significance is based on the ANOVA analysis. Each attribute indicates whether there is a significant difference at the corresponding alpha level.
  4. Samples . A list of samples included in the analysis, one sample per column.
  5. Means . Panel/Rep mean by Attribute and Sample.
  6. Post hoc lettering . identifies which products are significantly different from another.

Example Conclusion

As suspected based on the Product Means Radar GraphsApple Juice 4 is significantly different in all attributes, except Viscosity .
